Exploring Vail

WELCOME TO VAIL! It is so special to have you all in a place so near and dear to our hearts, and we hope you will have time to explore the area during the weekend. Whether you are here the whole week or just the weekend there is no shortage of mountain adventures and tasty eats that we hope will make your trip memorable. Here's a guide of our favorite things to do in and around Vail:

HIKING:

1.) Berry Picker Trail (Bride's pick): Berry Picker Trail hikes up Vail Mountain to Eagle's Nest Gondola from Lionshead Village and is 5.9 miles out and back. The hardest part of the hike is the first several hundred feet - do not be discouraged, the trail levels out and the stunning views are well worth the sweat! The trail winds through meadows of wildflowers (which are ski runs during the winter) and aspen groves. Groom's hack : grab a beer at the the restaurant/lodge at the top and ride the Gondola down :)

2.) Booth Falls Trail: If you’re looking for a stunning waterfall experience and have access to a car Booth Falls Trail is a must. This 4.5-mile round trip takes you through a lush forest to the impressive Booth Falls. The trail is relatively easy and great for all skill levels.

3.) Shrine Pass: A short drive from Vail this 4.3 mile out-and-back trail offers magnificent views and some of the most spectacular wildflowers in all of Colorado. This has been a Sklar/Fry family favorite for decades since Julie's grandma Bev and Poppy Bo hiked it on their honeymoon in 1957 and set their sights on moving to Colorado and starting a family of their own. Unfortunately, this trail is currently closed during the week, but would make a great option for Saturday or Sunday morning!

RUNNING:

Gore Valley Trail is a 12 mile picturesque, mixed-use paved path stretching from Dowd Junction to East Vail. The most readily available section from the wedding block condos and hotels runs along the river right downtown from West Meadow Drive to the Betty Ford Gardens. Bonus points for posting on Strava - bride and groom promise to give kudos!

EATING & DRINKING

1.) Mountain Standard: A Vail favorite for a reason! The restaurant is known for its wood-fired dishes and innovative American fare in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere.

2.) Almresi: Vail was designed to resemble an Alpine village with influences from German, Swiss, Italian, and Austrian architecture, hospitality, and cuisine. Nestled in the heart of the village, Almresi offers a unique dining experience inspired by traditional Austrian and German cuisine. Try their hot pretzel and Mountain Spritzer - you won't be disappointed!

3.) Bully Ranch: Located in the in the Sonnenalp hotel, this casual restaurant and bar has a southwestern ranch feel and is known for its burgers! We celebrated locking down our venue here with a round of mudslides. Call ahead to request a seat on the patio.

4.) Root & Flower: Modern wine and cocktail bar with elevated bar bites that is right in the center of the village.

5.) Big Bear Bistro: Cute cafe with a lovely patio that serves crepes and breakfast burritos along with a solid selection of sandwiches and salads for lunch. Great pre/post hike fuel!

6.) The Little Diner: A must for all your favorite breakfast staples. Conveniently located a 4 minute walk from the Antlers, we hope to run into many of you here on Monday morning.

ADDITIONAL FUN:

1.) Vail Farmer's Market - Open on Sunday from 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM this a great place to explore and grab lunch before Sunday's nuptials.

2.) Berry Ford Alpine Gardens: Named in honor of former First Lady Betty Ford, a long-time Vail resident and dedicated supporter of gardens, this stunning botanical oasis showcases the diverse flora of the Rocky Mountains. Right in Vail Village, this is a beautiful way to escape into nature without having to exert too much physical energy as you adjust to the altitude on your first day.

3.) Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame: The 10th mountain is dear to the Gaziano family as it was the groom's brother Dante's first unit in the army. The museum showcases this army division's history in World War II as well as its central role in creating the ski industry. Admission is free and it is conveniently located in town.

AND if you want to keep exploring that 10th Mountain spirit, stop by the 10th Mountain Whisky & Spirit Company for a unique tasting experience. It's free and open 10-6 daily.
